CODA celebrates the unique heritage and multicultural

identities of adult hearing individuals with deaf parent(s).

Above is  the Welcome to Miami video that was shown at last summer’s (2011) COBerlinDA Conference. This year’s 2012 Conference with the theme, Cherish the Treasure, will be held in Miami Beach, Florida, United States at the Miami Beach Resort, August 2-5th. Please refer to a previous post for more information regarding the conference; particularly, information about registration and pre- and post-conference activities.

Please remember that there are two airports that service the Greater Miami area. The first is Miami International Airport (MIA) and the other is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The Miami Beach Resort is12.5 mile from MIA and 22.5 miles from FLL. Be sure to check flights into both airports as one airline may prove to be less expensive than a different airline into the other airport.

There are a couple ways to get from the airports to the Miami Beach Resort. Check out MIA Ground Transportation, American Shuttle from MIA, as well as Super Shuttle Service from MIA and FLL. or GO-Airport Shuttle from FLL. Be aware that the new MetroRail Airport link is up for completion and is supposed to be operating by July 28th. It will get you from MIA to the Government Center, downtown Miami. From there, you can catch other Miami-Dade Transit that will take you to Miami Beach and the Miami Beach Resort. Link here to the Miami Transit System Map. Also, South Florida has the TriRail which will get you from Fort Lauderdale to Miami’s MetroRail; you just have to get from FLL to the TriRail in Fort Lauderdale.

Also, for those of you traveling to the conference with other family members and significant others who are not CODAS, there is a Facebook group set up just for them called Significant others and families of codas. This Facebook group has been set  up for non-codas to network before the conference and perhaps plan a few activities over the duration of the conference. If you would derive value from this connection, please ask to join.
